The Acropolis of Volterra, located at the highest point of the city within Enrico Fiumi Park, was the sacred and symbolic heart of ancient Etruscan Velathri. Founded between the 7th and 6th centuries BC, it became a major religious center, chosen for its commanding position and sweeping views. Here stood temples dedicated to Etruscan deities, along with altars, cisterns, and other public buildings that reflected the city’s spiritual and civic authority.
The Acropolis was not only a place of worship but also a focal point of collective identity, where public ceremonies and civic rituals took place. Today, thanks to extensive conservation and restoration efforts, the site is open to visitors and offers breathtaking views over the Tuscan countryside, making the enduring connection between nature, history, and spirituality that shaped this sacred place for centuries truly tangible.
